Rev Dr Marcus Braybrooke: Joint – President Chair of the World Congress of Faiths

You are cordially invited to a commemoration of ‘Holocaust Memorial and Genocide Awareness’ to be held in 43 Lancaster Gate on the 28th January. Universal Peace Federation (UPF) holds this event annually to promote awareness of ‘the path to genocide’. (For more information link) Previous years UPF programmes and visits to Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum near Jerusalem have highlighted the consequences of not responding promptly to movements towards genocide. (Link for UPF’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum Repentance and Remembrance Ceremony.) UPF’s founding principle of humanity as “One Family Under God” signifies the importance of understanding how such atrocities have happened and the determination to strive to prevent future reoccurrences. Mr. Faizullah Khan presented a paper in 2010 on the ‘Paths to Genocide’, exploring the parallels of these tragedies. We are hoping to have a speaker from the Roma community who tragically lost approximately 500,000 people in the Holocaust.

Sheikh Dr Hojjat Ramzy will be highlighting the suffering of the Rohingya people who Al Jazeera (link) describe as ‘the world’s most persecuted minority. …About 140,000 Rohingya in the Rakhine state live in ghetto-like camps that they can’t leave without government permission.’ He will be also discussing the commemoration of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of Bosnian Muslims.

Charlotte Simon, Founder of Mothers of Congo, will be sharing about the slaughter of 6 million Congolese in eastern DRC. It is also known as the rape capital of the world.

Rev Dr Marcus Braybrooke is the long-time Chair of the World Congress of Faiths. He has been involved in interfaith work for over forty years. He was Executive Director of the Council of Christians and Jews from 1984-8. He is a Co-Founder of the Three Faiths Forum, Patron of the International Interfaith Centre at Oxford and a Peace Councillor. He has travelled widely to attend interfaith conferences and to lecture. He has studied for a time in India and in Israel.

Edwin Shuker is a leading member of the Jewish Community being an Executive member of the Board of Deputies and the Vice President of the World Sephardic Congress.

We ask you to put this date in your diary and urge you to reserve a seat. We look forward to seeing you on the 28th of January.

Yours sincerely,

Robin Marsh Cllr. Margaret Ali

Sustainable Funding Platform – RealStew

21st January 6.30 pm, 43 Lancaster Gate, W2 3NA: Realstew: an online sustainable funding method to support your charity or other favourite cause. We have the special opportunity of having the founder of Realstew, Paddy Delaney, here to explain this to us in person. Fundraising for philanthropic and humanitarian causes is getting ever more difficult. The global economic crisis has seen the “donatable pound in the pocket” shrink. Traditional methods of fundraising have given way to regular giving in the hope that this would enhance the sustainability of such donation. However, even this is under attack from the ongoing effects of the economic crisis. To know more about Realstew please use this link here. Full invitation link here.
